Brick City TV Chooses VidOvation’s AVIWEST Bonded Cellular Solution for Live Streaming of PayPal’s ‘Local Selects Live’
LAKE FOREST, Calif. — Aug. 24, 2017 — VidOvation today announced that its AVIWEST bonded cellular technology delivered reliable and low-latency HD video feeds for “Local Selects Live,” a new interactive shopping experience from PayPal that debuted June 4. With an AVIWEST DMNG PRO180 system mounted on the video camera, the show’s roving film crew had the mobility and flexibility it needed to transmit broadcast-quality video and audio from the Melrose Trading Post flea market in Los Angeles.
Billed as PayPal’s first mobile market, “Local Selects Live” gives people around the world the ability to shop like a local from wherever they are, simply using a mobile device. Over the course of the two-hour live streaming event in June, internet personality Leandra Medine visited and interviewed 11 on-site vendors, and home viewers were able to purchase the vendors’ wares using PayPal. Without on-site Wi-Fi or hard-wired capabilities for connecting to the internet, producer Brick City TV had originally planned to use an on-location satellite vehicle to uplink the video feeds from the mobile film crew.
“Late into planning and testing for ‘Local Selects Live,’ we realized that the satellite uplink
would not give us the reliability we needed to get our feed online and keep a steady stream throughout the show. After encountering significant problems with the wireless feed from the camera to the truck dropping out, we went back to the drawing board,” said Yoav Attias, producer, Brick City TV. “Then I heard about the AVIWEST solution from a friend who had used it successfully on A&E’s ‘Live PD’ production. After testing the DMNG PRO, we realized we’d found the ideal solution.”
The AVIWEST DMNG PRO 180 uses bonded cellular technology to bond any available combination of network interfaces including local cellular and Wi-Fi networks, Ethernet, and satellite for high-quality and reliable video transmission links. Throughout “Local Selects Live,” the camera-mounted unit transmitted the live, high-quality video back to the control room, where an AVIWEST DMNG StreamHub receiver, decoder, and distribution platform streamed the video online.
“The DMNG PRO was a godsend — it really saved the day for us,” Attias added. “I had been a bit concerned about cellular bandwidth since the flea market has lots of people walking around with their phones and sharing available cellular bandwidth. But from the first second of the shoot, the system performed flawlessly and didn’t drop once. By removing the uncertainties from the technical side, the DMNG PRO allowed the creative side of our program to sing.
“I would not hesitate to recommend this system to other producers, and we plan on using it again in any situation with internet connectivity challenges. Not only was the AVIWEST gear extremely reliable, but it’s a much more cost-effective approach than uplinking to a satellite.”

Turnkey IPTV System for Enterprises Now Includes Full DirecTV Integration
VidOvation TV Now Bundles DirecTV Content With DRM, VOD, and DVR Capabilities for End-to-End IPTV Services in Broadcast and Media Facilities
IRVINE, Calif. — March 22, 2016 — VidOvation today announced that VidOvation TV, the company’s turnkey IPTV system for enterprises, now includes full DirecTV integration. As one of only two digital rights management (DRM) systems now approved by DirecTV and other satellite content providers, VidOvation TV is now a comprehensive, end-to-end IPTV solution that bundles DirecTV content with DRM, video on demand (VOD), and digital video recording (DVR) and enables streaming to the full range of consumer devices and set-top boxes.
The DirecTV COM2000 fully integrates with the VidOvation Enterprise IPTV System for the distribution of Live TV & Video-on-demand across your enterprise network to the Desktop, TVs, Smart TVs, Set-top Boxes, Mobile Devices, Tablets and more. The DirecTV COM2000 system has been designed specifically for hotels and enterprise installations where there is a need for a single wire solution for multiple rooms. The COM2000 system offers up to 48 tuners in a scalable system that takes up a small space in an equipment rack. It creates a head-end system where every TV can be tuned to its own channel without interfering with other TVs.
VidOvation TV is a flexible and scalable IPTV solution that empowers organizations to incorporate live TV programs, live internal video broadcasts, and VOD to increase the efficiency of training and communications. Television stations, studios, media facilities, financial institutions, government agencies, and any other type of enterprise can use VidOvation TV to deploy their own internal TV channels to communicate, train, and guide employees, including broadcast of timely instructions during critical emergency situations. The solution delivers digital television programming directly to employees’ smartphones, tablets, desktop players, and smart TVs, and it allows scheduled recording and on-demand time-shift viewing.
With support for live TV content such as DirecTV, broadcast or media facilities can use VidOvation TV in a range of applications. For instance, a sports league can watch and archive live broadcasts for game analysis, a media studio can manage its content and view its own live broadcasts for quality control, and news or financial institutions can watch markets and competing stations to stay competitive.
“IPTV video delivery offers a cost-effective, flexible, and highly interactive over-the-top alternative to traditional terrestrial, satellite, and cable TV formats. These traditional approaches have many shortcomings for enterprise or corporate deployments, such as an inability to distribute to multiple end-user platforms, a lack of open architecture, and a lack of support for DRM,” said Jim Jachetta, executive vice president and chief technology officer, VidOvation. “With VidOvation TV, we’ve overcome these shortcomings by giving our customers a truly comprehensive IPTV system that includes DRM, VOD, DVR capabilities, and now – in response to customer demand – live television content from DirecTV. Plus, the entire VidOvation TV experience is fully customizable, allowing customers to deliver IPTV services in line with their own branding and corporate image.”
