Sdi Over Ethernet

SDI Over Ethernet

Serial digital interface, more commonly referred to as SDI, is a type of interface that is used to transmit digital-grade video images. It was originally and most prevalently used by the movie and television industry due to its broadcast-quality image capabilities. However, as the trend toward streaming video and video downloads continues to build steam, there is an increasing demand for businesses and consumers alike to use SDI over Ethernet. While this technology was not available years ago, it is now available. More than that, it is becoming increasingly more common and more affordable to use, and this means that it may now be able to be used by you in your productions. However, there is a need to find the right solutions to use when implementing this technology in your office or other environment. See the Introductory Guide to IPTV and Video Networking.

Different Capabilities and Features to Look For

The capabilities of SDI over Ethernet vary from one provider to another, and you may consider researching the options thoroughly before you decide which option to use for your needs. For example, one option streams data in a bi-directional manner, and it works with SD, SDI, ASI and even HD technology. The speed of the service also can vary, and some capabilities are more suitable for shorter distance transport rather than longer distance transport.

Superior Digital Encoders

In addition to having the network in place to support SDI over Ethernet, there is also a need to invest in digital encoders. There are several encoders available for you to purchase, but superior encoders have dual input capabilities to support two simulcast channels at the same time. They may have lower cost viewer options, high resolution functions and other enhanced features. While there are multiple options available, the quality and cost of the technology is imperative. Through VidOvation, you can most easily find the highest quality encoders to use with SDI over ethernet at the best value available.

60 GHz Wireless NHL Cam’s – Interview with Jim Jachetta

VidOvation on sports officiating with 60 GHz Wireless

The NHL had an issue and realized that traditional wireless & cables just wouldn’t cut it. The variables they were dealing with put a strain on them to seek out alternatives. They found the 60 GHz wireless technology of VidOvation and asked for a custom built camera system based on that technology. The technology transmits uncompressed video using 1.5 of the 7 GHz available in the 60 GHz band. Jim Jachetta speaks about this specialized 60 GHz Wireless project in this interview Ken Pyle of The Viodi View.

How can 60 GHz Wireless help you?

You wouldn’t have any trouble if variables X,Y,and Z didn’t exist, but they do exist, and they’re undoubtedly causing problems. So you’re troubleshooting this obscure issue, but all of the tricks in the book are falling short of resolving the situation. What can you do? What are the options for your project? It is important to understand all of the options available to you regarding technology and spectrum. One of the newer available options to you is 60 GHz Wireless. The interview above is testimony to its reliability and multitude of applications.

We’re holding a Webinar on 60 GHz Wireless!

Save Money with 60GHz Wireless
We understand the pain of projects hindered by the limitations of traditional cable & wireless. That’s why on Thursday, the 26th of June, we will be hosting a webinar on the 60GHz Wireless broadcasting solutions for remote & hostile locations. We will introduce ways in which you can keep under budget, whilst choosing the ideal technology & spectrum for your projects. By the end of the session, you will be an expert on the array of wireless alternatives and understand how to create a reliable wireless system for your own unique project.

60GHz for YOUR project
Your own project is no doubt different in some way from every other. It’s full of its own set of anomalies & issues. The best way to learn how to deal with these struggles is by using a strong example. In our webinar, we will use the NHL GoalCam project as an example as we walk through the underlying restraints of the project, the budget decisions, RF bands alternatives, licensed vs. unlicensed spectrums, polarization, and ultimately what made 60 GHz Wireless their best option.

The Point?
The availability of 60 GHz Wireless opens up a whole new set of operational improvements for broadcasters. If you want to learn more about it, you know where to go!
