As the U.S. master distributor for AVIWEST, we are preparing Canal Plus of France to broadcast the Pope’s 2015 papal visit to Washington D.C. using an AVIWEST DMNG PRO180 system.

Attendance this year to see the Pope is expected to be high. Pope Francis will be arriving at the White House on September 22, 2015. This will be the first stop on his journey as he will also be traveling on to New York and Philadelphia. On the 23rd, the pope will meet with current President Barack Obama, pray midday prayer with bishops at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, and canonize Blessed Junipero Serra during a Mass at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. On Thursday, the pontiff will deliver a speech to a joint-meeting of Congress, pay a visit to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and visit several Catholic charities associated with the Archdiocese of Washington.

The AVIWEST DMNG PRO180 is the best option for this broadcast. Canal Plus’s need to quickly deploy a system and follow this papal visit is important to viewers back home. The environment during this visit is difficult to predict, many people will be trying to see the pope and may or may not be trying to send pictures and videos of the Pope across the cellular networks. That is precisely why we want an auto-detection system to make intelligent decisions to best handle the video without bothering the user, then the HD video feed is transmitted back to France live with just a few seconds of delay. Ad hoc overseas events like these often lead foreign European broadcasters to choose a one time rental fee as there is no easier, simpler way to reliably broadcast live video halfway back around the world. However, it is not uncommon for large or small TV stations to be inclined to purchase an AVIWEST bonded cellular video uplink system to have in their arsenal once the frequency of use tips in their favor.
